iPhone Ultra fold's battery filing pegs it at 4,883 mAh — 684 mAh less than the 18 Pro Max, for $600 more

TL;DR

Leaker Digital Chat Station reveals iPhone Ultra fold's battery filed in China: 1,921+2,962 = 4,883 mAh, 684 mAh less than iPhone 18 Pro Max, priced from an estimated $2,500.

Leaker Digital Chat Station posted on July 10 that Apple's battery supplier has registered two cells in China's regulatory database: 1,921 mAh + 2,962 mAh, totaling a minimum rated 4,883 mAh. It is the first paper-trail evidence of a spec for Apple's first foldable — labeled iPhone Ultra in some supply-chain notes, iPhone Fold in others — with MacRumors and Sina Tech tracking the same filing.

The number is nearly 900 mAh below earlier rumors of 5,400-5,800 mAh. The uglier comparison is internal: iPhone 18 Pro Max ships with 5,567 mAh — the Ultra fold has 684 mAh less than its own non-folding flagship. Externally, Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold sits at 5,015 mAh and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 at 4,400 mAh — Ultra lands in the middle, 132 mAh behind Pixel and 483 mAh ahead of Samsung.

IDC's pricing forecast puts Ultra at an average $2,500, top configs at $3,000 — a $600 premium over the Z Fold 7's $1,899 starting price. Same dollar, smaller battery, later arrival.

Split-cell layout is standard for book-style foldables — hinge and dual-layer display eat too much internal space for a single big cell. It is Apple's first dual-cell iPhone. Upside: series voltage can double, faster charging ceiling, better thermal zoning.

Other confirmed specs firming up this week: 7.8-inch inner display, 5.5-inch cover display, A20 chip, C2 modem, and the return of Touch ID (in-display fingerprint isn't yet reliable on a folding panel). Mass production starts end of July, launch in September alongside iPhone 18 Pro.

Apple clearly picked conservative on the battery — thinner, lighter, higher hinge yield, offset by A20 efficiency doing the endurance work. The rumored 6,000 mAh giant got cut to 4,883 mAh, which means Apple's team ran the math and refused to bet on "bigger cell + thicker body."

Win the bet, and A20 efficiency pushes real-world endurance above Z Fold 7, iOS foldable adaptation lands clean, $2,500 sells anyway, Apple finally enters the foldable market six years late but on its terms. Lose it, and that 684 mAh gap translates to two charge sessions a day in the real world, and the fall 2026 fold review chart-topper is a Pixel.
