Spot demonstrates doorstep delivery for the first time — Boston Dynamics has not started a logistics pilot
TL;DR
Boston Dynamics' Spot delivery video is a staged demo; the company is still seeking a pilot partner.
Boston Dynamics demonstrated Spot carrying packages to doorsteps for the first time, but the company wrote, “Today, it's a demo,” not a deployed logistics pilot. A driver loads two boxes, Spot visits two porches, and returns to the van. Boston Dynamics has not published a live customer route or paid operating data.
The company said it is talking with major logistics businesses. Its next target is a pilot delivering 200 packages a day, five days a week. Product manager Paige Miller said Spot can carry two 16-by-12-by-10-inch parcels, covering at least 60% of an average van's packages. For every three packages Spot delivers, the van could carry one more.
Drivers would first control and save routes before AI navigation handles known addresses. Teleoperators may remain on standby. Boston Dynamics has not named a partner, deployment date, or ROI; no logistics company has signed a 200-package daily order.
The disclosed prototype uses stop sensors and a tray to lower the drop. The final test item the team named was a carton of eggs.
