Nine of Jia Qianqian's 16 papers found plagiarized — two universities revoke degree and employment

TL;DR

Nine of Jia Qianqian's 16 papers were found plagiarized; two universities separately revoked her degree and job.

Northwest University in Xi'an announced on July 15 that nine of 16 papers published by Jia Qianqian as first author contained plagiarism, while six others contained duplicated text or improper citations. The remaining paper had no citation irregularity identified.

The university said the nine papers repeated passages and sentences from published works without attribution; one also involved duplicate publication. The roughly three-month investigation included document review, assessment by a professional organization, internal and external expert evaluation, and a statement from Jia. The university's academic committee then found academic misconduct.

Shaanxi Normal University separately reviewed Jia's master's thesis and found that its main arguments, evidence and conclusions repeated published books and papers. It revoked her master's degree. Northwest University revoked her associate-professor title, teaching-post qualification and teaching credential, accepted her resignation and ended her employment.

The papers were reported online in April 2026. Northwest University's April 9 notice only confirmed that an investigation had opened; its findings and penalties were announced on July 15. Shaanxi Normal University revoked the degree, while Northwest University handled Jia's title, qualifications and employment. Neither university's notice extended its findings or penalties to Jia's relatives.
