Nikkei says Huawei targets over 20% phone shipment growth — suppliers told to prepare up to 60 million
TL;DR
Nikkei says Huawei targets 20%+ phone growth and asked suppliers for up to 60m units; Huawei has not confirmed.
Nikkei Asia reported, citing people briefed on the matter, that Huawei aims to increase 2026 smartphone shipments by more than 20% and has told suppliers to prepare production of up to 60 million phones. The report compared that production plan with fewer than 50 million phones in 2025. Huawei has not publicly confirmed either the shipment target or production plan.
Nikkei described 60 million as the maximum production volume communicated to the supply chain, not completed shipments or final sales. Isaiah Research separately estimated in April that Huawei would ship about 60 million phones for the year. The figures have different sources and definitions. Isaiah forecast second-quarter contract-price increases of 50% to 60% for NAND Flash and nearly 50% for DRAM.
IDC's preliminary data put China's second-quarter smartphone shipments at about 66 million, down 4.3% year over year for a fifth consecutive quarterly decline. Huawei ranked first with 22.6% market share and 19.4% shipment growth. IDC said Huawei and Apple held prices steady and used targeted promotions, while most other Android brands raised prices or reduced configurations as semiconductor component costs increased.
The increase above 20% is a shipment-growth target attributed by Nikkei to its sources. The production figure of up to 60 million is the supply-chain arrangement described in the report. Huawei did not respond to Nikkei's request for comment.
