A group of YouTube Premium users paying through Turkish Apple accounts reported subscription lapses or renewal failures in July. Multiple users in an OzBargain thread said their Apple accounts still held Turkish-lira gift-card balances, but Premium had reverted to the free tier. Other users encountered
This payment route does not charge a card directly through Google. Users set an Apple account to Turkey, subscribe inside the iOS YouTube app, and let Apple settle the charge from the account balance. Turkey remained cheaper after a June price increase, and guides promoted gift cards as a route that did not require a Turkish bank card.
A Google Help community post from a user in Turkey reports country-verification failure even though the Google account, Apple ID, payment card, and physical location were all Turkish. A separate June post says YouTube directed an affected user to check Apple's country setting. These are user accounts, not a new policy announced by Google or Apple.
As of July 16, public evidence supports a cluster of reports involving Turkish Apple accounts. It does not establish that every account is affected or that India is undergoing the same check. Neither Google nor Apple has announced a date for a blanket shutdown of Turkish Apple in-app billing.
