Google AI Mode acts across apps — carts, designs and playlists from Search

TL;DR

Google AI Mode links Instacart, Canva and YouTube Music in the U.S. to build carts, find templates and save playlists.

Google AI Mode can perform concrete actions in third-party apps for the first time. Google began rolling out Connected Apps in the U.S. on July 16, linking Instacart, Canva and YouTube Music so Search can build a shopping cart, find design templates and save playlists instead of only answering questions.

When planning a barbecue, AI Mode can add ingredients directly to an Instacart cart, although payment still moves to Instacart's app or website. Canva can return template options for a flyer. For a party, AI Mode can generate a playlist, save it to YouTube Music and start playback.

The third connector is YouTube Music, not general YouTube, and the release is not global. MacRumors verified availability for AI Mode in the U.S. in English, on desktop Search and the Google Search iOS app. Google's wording was “starting to roll out,” so not every eligible account received it on July 16.

Google said interactions with Search and the new AI features may be used to improve generative AI, and recommended enabling history and personalized recommendations. Partner revenue sharing, commercial terms and ROI were not disclosed. The first connectors remain limited to adding products, choosing templates and saving playlists.
