China Railway opens a 60-day request window — actual ticket sales still start 15 days out

TL;DR

12306 starts 60-day request registration July 20; actual ticket sales retain the 15-day window.

China Railway's 12306 will let passengers submit ticket requests up to 60 days early for the first time, starting July 20 on more than 200 Beijing-Shanghai high-speed and conventional trains. Requests can be entered from 60 to 17 days before departure. This does not extend actual advance ticket sales to 60 days.

Passengers can make an exact request for a train or a flexible request covering a date, time range and seat class. Each order covers up to 19 passengers. The system allocates tickets after the existing 15-day sales window opens, sends a payment notice after success and cancels unpaid orders after the deadline.

China State Railway Group says advance demand data can guide capacity. A request does not guarantee a ticket or bypass waitlist rules. The July 20 launch registers demand; it does not release every seat for the next 60 days at once.

12306 disclosed no AI allocation model, cloud-server capacity or additional revenue ROI. The initial scope is only more than 200 trains on the two Beijing-Shanghai corridors, and issuance remains tied to the existing sales clock.
