Huawei shows 1,024-chip Atlas 950 at WAIC — 6.7x claim belongs to full 8,192-chip design

TL;DR

WAIC's 1,024-chip Atlas 950 shows ~1 EFLOPS FP8; the 6.7x claim applies to the 8,192-chip design.

Huawei publicly displayed physical Atlas 950 SuperPoD hardware at WAIC for the first time. The Shanghai configuration links 1,024 Ascend AI chips across 16 cabinets and is labeled at about 1 EFLOPS FP8, 2 EFLOPS FP4 and 256 TB of globally addressable unified memory.

The displayed hardware and Huawei's maximum design are different scales. Atlas 950 can expand through UnifiedBus to 8,192 NPUs. Huawei's claim of 6.7 times Nvidia NVL144's computing power and 15 times its memory capacity refers to that full configuration, not the 1,024-chip exhibit.

Huawei presents the cabinets as one logical computer for large-model training and inference. Its materials describe unified memory addressing, but WAIC disclosures did not provide single-chip performance, system power, measured model throughput or pricing.

Commercial availability is planned for Q4 2026. What the July 17 display confirms is a 1,024-chip system and its labeled specifications; 8,192 chips and 6.7x remain maximum-design figures and Huawei's own comparison.
