FFXIV Mobile shuts after 15 months in China — global release canceled
TL;DR
FFXIV: Crystal World stops China sign-ups/top-ups July 17, closes Sept. 30; global release is canceled.
Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World announced shutdown roughly 15 months after launch. Tencent's Lightspeed Studios and Square Enix said on July 17 that mainland China registration and top-ups stopped at 18:00 that day. Game servers close at 11:00 on September 30, followed by the official forum and customer service on October 15.
The MMORPG launched in mainland China on June 19, 2025, developed by Tencent and licensed and supervised by Square Enix. The companies cited operational adjustments and changing market conditions and terminated the licensing agreement. They did not disclose player counts, revenue, refund totals or server costs.
The shutdown does not cover the PC and console Final Fantasy XIV service, which continues operating. Purchased but unused currency and paid items are handled under the China service's refund and compensation arrangements. Players can log in until September 30.
The team's statement also confirms that the planned global edition is canceled. From its June 19, 2025 launch to the September 30, 2026 server closure, the China service runs for 468 days.
