TSMC adds $100B to Arizona | total $265B, CFO tells rivals "no opportunity given"

TL;DR

TSMC pledged another $100 billion for its Arizona fabs, taking total planned U.S. investment to $265 billion. CFO Wendell Huang says the funds cover 2nm-and-below front-end fabs and advanced packaging, and warned rivals "we will not give them any opportunity." Q2 net income hit a record $22 billion.

TSMC announced an additional $100 billion for its Arizona operations, bringing total planned U.S. investment to $265 billion. CFO Wendell Huang said the new funds cover both front-end wafer fabrication and back-end advanced packaging, with the new fabs producing chips at 2nm and below. Full-year capex guidance was raised to $60-64 billion.

Q2 net income hit a single-quarter record of NT$706.6 billion (about $22 billion), up 77.4% YoY, with AI chip demand pulling profit straight through the roof. The Arizona fab 1 is already in production with yields matching Taiwan; fab 2 equipment is arriving, fab 3 is under construction, and groundwork for fab 4 and the first advanced-packaging site is already underway.

Facing self-built Terafab by Musk and a rebuilding Intel, Huang told reporters last Friday that TSMC "will not give rivals any opportunity" and "we want to show the outside world we will not hand any market opportunity to anyone else." CEO C.C. Wei added: capex over the next three years will be significantly higher than the past three.
