Samsung on July 20 launched its first US-branded credit card, Samsung Galaxy Card, in partnership with Barclays. Users apply inside Samsung Wallet; on approval it's usable immediately. A physical card ships later — black metal. It's Samsung's first crossing into consumer finance products in the US.
Galaxy Card runs as a standard Visa, no annual fee, with dedicated installment plans for Samsung Galaxy devices. The rewards curve:
5% cash back at Samsung.com and Samsung retail; 3% through Samsung Wallet; 2% on streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Spotify; 1% on everything else.
The reward slope is obviously funneling money back into Samsung's own hardware channels — 3-5% high rewards live only inside Samsung's ecosystem, and everywhere else it's the industry entry line of 1%. Samsung isn't after credit card interchange; it wants to copy iPhone-Apple Card's "hardware + wallet + credit" closed loop into the Galaxy ecosystem.
Apple Card launched in 2019 with Goldman Sachs; five years in Goldman bled billions and quit consumer credit, Apple swapping to Barclays / Chase. Samsung went straight to Barclays — avoiding the retail-credit road Goldman burned to the ground.
