Moonshot Targets $50B Valuation in Its Last Pre-HK-IPO Round|Talks Start in August, Listing Within Six Months

TL;DR

Moonshot AI targets $50B valuation in its last pre-HK-IPO round starting August, aiming to list within six months.

Star Market Daily (Cailian Press) reported on July 22Moonshot AI plans to open its last pre-IPO fundraising round in August, targeting a $50 billion pre-money valuation.

The cadence has two legs — the company expects to close a round tied to the Kimi K3 launch within days, at a ~$31.5B pre-money. It will then immediately open the $50B round, which will be the last private equity round before its Hong Kong listing. Public listing could come within six months.

Valuation trajectory — $3B in 2024 → $10B in May 2026 → $31.5B in July 2026 → $50B target August 2026. 5x in two months, 15x in a year. No Chinese AI company has moved like this. The benchmark is Anthropic's H round at $965B (see #31) — the US-China valuation gap has closed to ~20x.

The valuation logic — Kimi K3's launch (see #278, #300, #336) drove user surges, crushed capacity in 48 hours, and forced C-side signup shutdown. Those negative capacity events read as upside signals to investors — real demand, scale = revenue. Microsoft testing routing Copilot inference to Kimi K3 (another item in this batch) reinforces the "international customers" narrative.

Why HK — A-share doesn't allow unprofitable AI listings, US listings face export controls and CAISI review risk (see #363), HK is the only window. Kimi K3 is the story, $50B is the expectation, IPO is the exit — three linked promises to investors.

Risks — Anthropic Fable 5 and Opus 4.8 still hold the high end, OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol dominates enterprise. Kimi K3's moat is open weights + Chinese-language scenarios. The next six months are the valuation-realization window.
