Musk Threatens AI Odyssey Remake by Year-End | Grok Imagine to Redo Nolan's $264M Opener, Cites Casting Grievance

TL;DR

After Nolan's Odyssey opens at a record $264M globally, Musk pledges Grok Imagine will crank out a 'historically accurate' AI-made version by year-end.

Nolan's Odyssey adaptation just broke box office records$264M global opening weekend, past The Dark Knight Rises' $249M 2012 launch. Within hours Musk posted on X: 'Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.'

The flashpoint is casting. Nolan cast Mexican/Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o as Helen (the classical 'most beautiful woman in the world'), and Musk called it deliberate 'diversity' pandering for Best Picture — 'Nolan lost his integrity.' Same hour, Musk replied 'I'm down' to a viral pitch asking him to fund Mel Gibson $100M for a Homeric Greek version.

Grok Imagine is xAI's video model, just at v0.9 in June — max 30-second single-shot clips, still solving character consistency. Musk is claiming a full feature-length film in 5 months. The Odyssey's ~12,000 lines typically map to a 3+ hour adaptation. No one in the industry has stitched current AI video models to that scale yet.
