Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, Flip8 in London | Fold8 Gets New 5.5" Wide Cover Screen; Memory Chip Costs Push Prices Up

TL;DR

Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked in London launched Z Fold8, first-ever Fold Ultra, and Flip8 — Fold8 has a new 5.5" wide cover screen; prices raised due to memory chip cost surge.

Samsung Electronics ran Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London, launching three foldables at once: Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Flip8. Fold8 Ultra is the first Ultra-tier foldable — same Fold-series aspect ratio, first with a 50MP ultrawide camera, positioned around productivity and AI multitasking.

Fold8 switches form factor: cover display shrinks to 5.5" at a 10:16 wide ratio (closer to a normal candy-bar phone), main display 7.6" 4:3. Samsung positions it as 'lighter, more content-friendly.' Flip8 is the series' lightest at 180g, 6.1mm unfolded; the FlexWindow adds Now Brief, and the camera picks up Camcorder Grip, Super Steady horizontal lock, and dual creator+subject recording.

Prices were raised across the line. Samsung attributed the hike to surging memory chip costs — matching the past two days' other headline: OPPO and vivo rejected Samsung's Q3 2026 memory pricing. Samsung, itself a top memory OEM, is passing upstream cost pressure into its own handset MSRPs. Same event also debuted the AI health assistant aimed at Apple Watch's cardiac-metric moat (see post 422).
