Nike Restructures China Online Distribution | Terminates 1,000+ Digital Storefronts, Consolidates on Nike.com, Tmall, JD, Douyin

TL;DR

Nike will terminate partnerships with over 1,000 Chinese digital storefronts starting January 2027, concentrating online sales on Nike's own site/app plus Tmall, JD, and Douyin. Distributor Topsports is the biggest casualty.

Nike will terminate cooperation with multiple online distributors in China. Nike Greater China VP and GM Cathy Sparks said Tuesday that starting January 2027, Nike will concentrate online sales on Nike's own website and app, plus Tmall, JD, and Douyin.

This scraps the previous playbook, which involved over 1,000 "digital storefronts," many operated by Nike's physical-retail partners. Distributor Topsports disclosed Wednesday it received formal notice from Nike that starting January 1, 2027, Topsports' online sales of Nike products in mainland China will "fully terminate."

Context: Nike's China market share has been steadily eroded by Anta, Li-Ning, and the Arc'teryx-owned Amer portfolio. Over the past five years Nike relied on authorized distributors to spread small-B storefronts across Tmall for SKU coverage, but since 2024 the repurchase rate and brand control from that path have been dropping. Consolidating on top platforms plus self-run flagships is Nike's move to retake pricing and inventory control — the cost is giving up long-tail traffic and forcing partners to switch brand mix.
