China BCI Achieves Cross-Region Thousand-Person Synchronized EEG Collection | New Data Source for Neural Foundation Models

TL;DR

A Chinese research team unveiled a new EEG collection device that for the first time achieves synchronized EEG signal capture across a thousand-plus people across regions, targeting neural foundation model training.

A Chinese research team unveiled a new EEG signal collection device on July 22globally the first to achieve synchronized EEG signal capture across a thousand-plus people across regions, providing support for neural foundation model training and general BCI technology R&D.

The team overcame two technical hurdles: one, guaranteeing signal collection precision while keeping the device miniaturized; two, overcoming network latency to achieve millisecond-level time alignment across multiple devices and regions — the latter ensures different EEG signals can be analyzed together. Traditional EEG experiment data came from single labs, single subjects, single-session capture with extremely sparse samples; this thousand-person concurrent capture directly pushes sample scale into the training range usable for large models.

Team statement: scaled EEG collection technology will continue to accumulate data, used to train neural foundation models. This means AI's learning material is no longer confined to text, images, video, or other indirect information, but can directly understand human cognitive state through neural signals. The path from natural language to "cognition direct-read" now has industrial-grade data supply for the first time.
