.ORG domains rise June 1 — first price change in 10 years

TL;DR

.ORG wholesale price rises from $9.93 to $11.00 on June 1 — first hike in 10 years, +11%. Retail (Porkbun et al.) expected to climb to $13–14. Renew up to 10 years before June 1 to lock current price.

.ORG registry Public Interest Registry (PIR) announced wholesale prices rise from $9.93 to $11.00 on June 1, 2026 — ~11% increase. First price adjustment since 2016. Retail expected to rise more — Porkbun and other registrars have notified users renewal prices may climb from ~$10.74 to $13–14, since wholesale increases typically get amplified by registrars and passed to users.

Background: Almost much pricier in 2019. PIR nearly sold to private equity Ethos Capital for $1.135B. Had the deal closed and 10% annual increases gone through, .ORG wholesale would now be near $20. Killed by community outcry and ICANN veto — PIR remained nonprofit.

Suggestion: before June 1, renew up to 10 years to lock current pricing. PIR says no further increases planned.
