The major shift is on the language leaderboard. TypeScript overtook Python and JavaScript in August 2025 to become the #1 language by contributor count, adding over 1M contributors in a year (+66.6% YoY). Python added 850K (+48.78%); JavaScript added 427K (+24.79%). Python still dominates AI and data science.
AI repos hit 4.3M cumulative, nearly double 2023. Public repos using LLM SDKs crossed 1.1M, with ~694K created in the last 12 months — +178% YoY.
Geography is shifting. India: 21.9M developers (+5.2M YoY), closing on the US (28M). India is projected to hit 57.5M by 2030, becoming the world's largest developer community.
